Chairman | Tricked into paddling by Bill Stansbie back in 1988, I was later conned into being treasurer till they found out where the money was going when they demoted me to Chairman. Lethargy prevents me from resigning. I was happy as an L2 Coach but recently wandered by mistake onto a Trainee L3 Assessment. I get hijacked onto rivers up to Grade 3, the sea and occasional slaloms. I'd give it all up if it wasn't for the thrill of stripping off in public car parks. I'm 60 and still have all my own teeth. | chairman @ribblecanoeclub.co.uk |

Newsletter | The Lesser Spotted
Martin is not an aquatic animal; it normally inhabits the banks of rivers where it laughs at the cold wet canoeists found therein. Photographs of the Lesser Spotted Martin actually in water are therefore extremely rare. In this picture we can see the reason: its ungainly shape, its large bulk and the fact that it is about to ground spectacularly on the lip of the weir, all combine to discourage it from venturing out on a regular basis. |

Freestyle |
Freestyle is my favoured discipline but I also enjoy running rivers,
I am currently ranked second in Britain for 0C1 and just this year

General | I learnt to paddle with Ribble Canoe Club and since then kayaking has been the main basis of my life and has allowed me to work abroad and in our country. I am a Level 2 Kayak Instructor and a Level 1 Raft Guide working for PGL, a kids activity holiday company both in France and England. When not working and living on centre I enjoy paddling steep rivers.
| John Kington |
|
General | A former Treasurer, I've been paddling with Ribble for around 12 years. I'm happiest paddling grade 3 & 4 rivers, but also dabble with sea & flat water touring. If not in a boat I can often be found on a bike or up a hill - sometimes both together.
